Clarywound GF – Glass Fiber Filter Cartridge for High-Temperature and Chemical-Resistant Filtration

When polypropylene cartridges reach their limits, Clarywound GF takes over. Gopani’s glass fiber (glass fibre) wound filter cartridge is engineered specifically for aggressive chemical environments, elevated operating temperatures up to 400°C (750°F), and gas-phase filtration where standard thermoplastic media cannot perform. Available in heat-treated (“baked”) and standard (“unbaked”) grades, Clarywound GF is precision CNC-wound with borosilicate glass fibers sourced from leading global manufacturers on a stainless steel inner core, delivering consistent graded depth filtration across the full cartridge cross-section – tight inner layers to coarse outer layers – protecting downstream equipment, membranes, and processes across the most demanding industrial applications. ISO 9001:2015 certified with full technical support.

Why Choose Glass Fiber Over Polypropylene for Your Application

Polypropylene wound cartridges (Clarywound Extreme and Ultra) are the right choice for ambient-temperature water and general liquid filtration. But several industrial processes demand more. Here is where Clarywound GF is the correct selection:

  • Extreme high temperatures: Glass fiber with SS core withstands up to 400°C (750°F), compared to just 60°C for PP wound cartridges. Ideal for heat transfer fluids (Dowtherm, Therminol), hot process water, and steam condensate service
  • Aggressive solvents and chemicals: Resistant to strong mineral acids, organic acids, ketones, esters, aromatic solvents, strong oxidizing agents, and alkalis that would dissolve or deform polypropylene or cotton media
  • Gas and air filtration: Rigid low-moisture-absorption glass fiber structure suits compressed air, instrument air, nitrogen, hydrogen, and helium gas service where PP fails
  • Zero extractables (baked grade): The heat-treated “baked” grade has no organic binders or lubricants – ideal for semiconductor and microelectronics applications with strict extractable requirements
  • Zero fiber shedding: Precision wound structure with controlled fiber orientation prevents downstream fiber migration – critical for membrane protection and high-purity processes
  • True depth filtration: Graded density from tight inner core to open outer surface captures particles across the full depth of the cartridge, not just at the surface

Applications

  • Chemical process filtration – strong mineral acids, organic acids, strong oxidizing agents
  • Organic solvents and solvent recovery
  • Hot water, steam condensate, and boiler feed pre-treatment
  • Compressed air, instrument air, nitrogen, hydrogen, and helium filtration
  • Semiconductor / PCB industry – Piranha etch, solvent strip, acid polishing
  • Pharmaceutical API and chemical intermediate filtration
  • Petrochemical, refinery, and polymer process filtration
  • Electroplating, electropolishing, and plating bath filtration
  • Oil-water separation and lubricating oil filtration
  • Paint, coatings, ink, and resin filtration
  • Fertilizer manufacturing and chemical process filtration

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum operating temperature for Clarywound GF glass fiber filter cartridges?
Clarywound GF with stainless steel core operates at up to 400°C (750°F), over 6x the temperature limit of polypropylene wound cartridges. This makes it suitable for heat transfer fluid filtration, hot chemical processes, and steam condensate service. Contact our technical team to confirm suitability for your specific conditions, particularly for steam service or intermittent temperature spikes.

What does “baked” glass fiber mean?
“Baked” (also called “heat-treated” or “heat-purified”) refers to a firing/heat treatment process applied to the wound glass fiber cartridge during manufacturing. At high temperature, all organic lubricants and binders used in the glass fiber spinning and winding process are burned off. The result is a cartridge with no organic extractables – important for semiconductor and microelectronics applications. Clarywound GF is available in both baked and standard (“unbaked”) grades.

Is “glass fibre” the same as “glass fiber”?
Yes. “Glass fibre” is the British English spelling used in the UK and most Commonwealth markets. “Glass fiber” is the American English spelling. They refer to the same material – borosilicate glass drawn into fine filaments and wound into a depth filter cartridge. Clarywound GF is the same product regardless of which spelling you use to search for it.

What housing is compatible with Clarywound GF cartridges?
Clarywound GF is available in standard 10″ to 50″ lengths with 63 mm (2.5″) outer diameter, fitting all standard multi-cartridge housings designed for 2.5″ OD cartridges. Cartridges are typically supplied open-ended (no end caps) for use in housings with knife-edge or compression seals. Consult your housing specifications or contact Gopani for compatibility confirmation.

Are glass fiber cartridges available for gas filtration?
Yes. Clarywound GF is available in gas filtration grades for compressed air, instrument air, nitrogen (N2), hydrogen (H2), and helium (He) service. The rigid, low-moisture-absorption borosilicate glass fiber structure is well suited to gas-phase applications. Specify gas filtration grade when ordering.
